The Elektra Energy Storage Project, Sweden’s largest battery storage project, is now fully operational. Located in Landskrona, southern Sweden, the project will provide ancillary services to help balance the grid for Landskrona Energi.
RES developed the 20 MW / 20 MWh project along with SCR, as well as provided construction management services. The project was acquired by Axpo Group in 2023.
“We are very pleased to see Elektra completed. From development to construction and commissioning, it has been a rapid process, and we are very happy and proud of it. Elektra is an important project for both Landskrona and the Swedish grid as a whole. Projects like this help make our grid less susceptible to power outages,” said Emelie Glave, Project Manager at RES.
“Elektra is RES’ first completed battery project in the Nordics, but we are a global organisation with experienced colleagues worldwide who have been working on BESS projects for many years. Internal knowledge sharing enables us to develop large-scale battery projects where they are most beneficial”, says Fredrik Åkerman, Project Developer at RES.
RES will now provide asset management and O&M services for the project, including planned and corrective maintenance, as well as 24/7 monitoring and escalation and ancillary services management. The BESS will be operated using RESolve, RES’ storage control and dispatch system that will provide 24/7 management of the battery’s operation, maximising return on investment.
