The Position

RES are proud of our reputation as leaders in renewable energy and for demonstrating that a zero carbon future is possible, affordable and desirable. To support our growth plans we are looking to expand and enhance our in-house acoustic capabilities, thereby maintaining a ‘centre of excellence’ in the field of acoustics.  Reporting to the Acoustic Lead, the Acoustic Specialist is responsible for:

  • Working with colleagues in the acoustics team and assisting the Acoustic Lead to meet the acoustics team’s goals.
  • Pre-construction acoustic assessments for all technologies (including wind, solar, energy storage and green hydrogen) in all RES markets worldwide.
  • Post-construction support for all technologies in all RES markets worldwide.
  • Providing specialist expertise to projects where necessary.
  • Ensuring that high quality / best practice is maintained in all acoustics tasks and that task delivery is aligned with project budgets / programmes.

Organisational Context

The role sits within the Group Technical Department reporting to the Acoustic Lead.

Key Accountabilities

The Acoustic Specialist is accountable for:

  • Early phase and simple acoustic assessments for all technologies (including wind, solar, energy storage and green hydrogen) in all RES markets worldwide.
  • Later phase and complex / cumulative acoustic assessments in all RES markets worldwide.
  • Development and continuous improvement of acoustical methods, procedures and tools for use by colleagues within both the Group Technical Department and the RES regions worldwide.
  • Liaison with colleagues to develop acoustic measurement systems and software tools.
  • Developing relationships both inside, and outside, of RES to maintain a high level of knowledge and competency in the field of acoustics.
  • The design and implementation of acoustic measurement campaigns.
  • Liaison with Environmental Health Officers and other third parties.
  • Analysis of operational acoustic data to develop acoustic mitigation strategies and noise control techniques.

Knowledge

It is beneficial to have some or all of the following:

  • Familiarity with acoustic analysis methodologies.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy technologies.
  • An understanding of acoustic analysis best practice and current UK regulatory requirements.
  • Exposure to software development processes.

Skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience

  • Experience of working with external third parties.

Qualifications

You should have one of the following:

  • A degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • The Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.
  • A suitable non-vocational background with appropriate experience in acoustics.
